New Hampshire-based artist Bri Custer makes paintings that walk the line between representation and abstraction. Her work is a semblance of observations and impressions drawn primarily from encountered landscapes. Bri is particularly interested in the concept of perception, and the imperfections and idiosyncrasies that emerge when translating life to canvas. This idea is most evident in the way she uncovers space and light by layering observed and invented color relationships throughout the process of working and re-working each painting.
Bri received her bachelors in studio art at the University of New Hampshire and shows regionally in Maine, New Hampshire and Massachusetts. She is currently pursuing her M.Ed. in Secondary Education with a passion for encouraging lifelong learning and artistic behavior. She credits her husband and her hound-lab mix, Vinny for keeping her inspired and always laughing.
